RHD ‘67 Notch

A few years ago I bought two Notchbacks, a ‘67 and a ‘70. The 1970 was already registered but needed a full mechanical overhaul to get the registration transferred across. I really wanted to build the early Notch first but I figured it would be easier to get the late one on the road quicker and be driving a Notch sooner.

Have had the ‘70 on the road now for a little while so I’ve been getting stuck into this early Notch project when time is available.

Unbolted the bumpers and fenders. Pretty stoked to find no rust in the inner guards!

That 67 looks very clean. Was it originally assembled in OZ? Or is it a German built car? Either way it's clean and should be a fairly easy resto.

I stripped a few more parts off the notch including doors, bonnet, decklid, fuel tank etc.

with the fuel tank out it made it a lot easier to start disassembling the front end and brakes to make a start on cleaning everything up.

Front end disassembled gave me more room to clean back everything and I prepared the inner fender etc for paint.

A little more work painting some front end and brake stuff and it was almost ready to start renewing and putting the front end back together and back on wheels.

The steering box that was on the car was worn but I had another one on my spare type 3 beam which felt really good.

Unbolted it, gave it a clean up, disassembled a little bit of it and cleaned out the inside, put it back together and gave it a lick of paint.

Also took the discs off, cleaned them up and painted them and had them machined. Also painted the backing plates and calipers.

There were only one or two spots of rust in the body just around the base of the windscreen. Will be doing the finishing touches to this repair when I start paint prep down the track

I decided to get another pair of doors as the ones on the car were split and dented.

The hinges on the passenger door needed a small tweak but now have it opening and closing nicely. The drivers door was a little more work as the spot where the lower hinge bolts to the A pillar was split, causing the door to sag. With a few welds and tweaks both doors are opening and closing great.

The doors need to be pulled off and need a little bit of body work and a rebuild but are much better than the doors I had.

Pulled the engine out and found two small areas of rust which needed attention...

All rust converted and fixed and ready for the engine bay to be cleaned back and paint applied.
