What is the best source for OEM-or-equal parts? Looking for high quality replacement, not speed-shop, parts. |

VW stopped making parts years go, so there is no "new" OEM. if you want NOS, then the classified and ebay are your best online sources. _________________ Glenn

Along with what Glenn noted above, recommend always doing a little research / homework before any replacement part purchase. A lot of the aftermarket / used stuff available for ACVW's nowadays is pretty crappy quality and/or non-functional.
That said, I generally have had best luck overall with "Wolfsburg West", although even some of their stuff leaves a lot to be desired on occasion. I've found that they will generally refund for anything that doesn't meet up with rational expectations, however. I like "Airhead Parts" for some items (mostly used OEM components), too. "BugCity" also has a lot of used and/or NOS OEM parts available, albeit at fairly "premium" rates for high-demand/low-availability items. Have found several classifieds vendors on Samba who also sell very good quality items -- check their feedback... |

if you specify the part you want, you will likely get informative replies.
West Coast Metric sells really superior rubber bits, better quality than VW.
For body panels, fenders and such, find good used as many new ones have issues, thinner metal, not shaped correctly.
For motor parts, there are wide variations in quality. some better than stock, some real junk also is sold.

Bug City in CT and John's Car Corner in VT are my go-to suppliers for hard to find NOS stuff. Get your wallet ready....
Standard Beetle's were still available in Mexico until 2004, so many genuine VW parts can be had from south of the border. Antonio Trejo advertises here on the Samba and is a great resource for some parts as well. Most body and suspension parts remained unchanged down there from 1971 onward. _________________ 1971 STD BEETLE- DD-1st car, 1st love. keepin' it stock! 1600DP, Solex 34-3 Mexi Bosch SVDA Dist NOW w/POINTS

Take a look at this thread. Even though I list a lot of store fronts. You can still call them or email them. I try to buy local as much as possible. It’s nice to be able to walk in get advice, grab the part, and support the community. Unfortunately not everyone has access to local stores.
