[]My heater boxes are rust buckets and I am thinking of going with J Tubes now! I live in Louisiana so,,, the heaters are not being used and disconnected anyways! My question is, Does the cooling tins that runs under the cylinders attach to the J Tube in any way like it does the heater boxs, or do you just take them off and leave them off? Seems to me that the Tubes would heat the cylinders even more if you have to leave them off????[/b]

Somebody make a heat shield for this, or you could just wrap them in exhaust wrap. The exhaust wrap will definitely give you less heat transfer.

The sled tins won't attach to the J-tubes, you'll need to install these to keep the cooling airflow properly controlled: http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Industrial-Cooling-Ti...g-tins.htm

i made my own industrial tins, out of a piece of left over piece of sheet metal. Used a template on tS. In the search function I typed in "industrial tins". First or second hit. They attach to the sleds and just hoover above the Jtubes.

My Bug was running a little hot. I was using an IR temp gun to measure. Manufactured and installed these tins and dropped, somewhere around 15 - 20 degrees!

My jtubes have mounts for the stock tins. You need them for proper cooling and protection but here in FL I didn't need heat either. Find the tubes with the mounts so you can use the original tins.
