Hi, i have a 1973 bay pickup.
It had a type 1 Engine with an alternator with an externally voltage regulator.
Im about to drop in another rebuild Engine, and it has an alternator with intern regulator.
How do i go about that?
Any pointers?
Extern regulator wiring
New alternator setup

Thanks.
I do find that the conversion guide doesn’t really fit my setup.
I have a Bosch 3 pin voltage regulator and the 3 pins read DF, D-, D+
The guide says that there should be a B+, and that’s were I get stuck.
I have 2, 6.0 gauge red wires coming from the starter. I’m thinking maybe one goes to battery + and the other one will go to the alternator B+?

You can clearly see the B+ embossed into the alternator body in the above picture. You can just leave the plug for the old regulator supported out of the way. Without looking at Bus Daddy's link, I would presume it tells you how to handle the blue wire for the charge warning light. |

Yes ur right.
So i will just connect a 6.0 red wire from the alternator B+ to the battery. And find the Blue wire to the dash battery lamp and connect it to the spade conning up from the alternator. Yes? _________________ Jakob |

Yes, the blue wire is in the plug that went on the old voltage regulator. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Yes together with a red, Brown and green one.

No - remove it!
1 - Remove the old regulator and the harness that went to the alternator.
2 - Make up a #8 red wire with a 5/16" ring terminal on one (the starter) end and a suitable sized ring terminal (1/4" or 5/16" - I don't remember which) for the alternator end.
3 - Make up a #16 blue wire with a 1/4" female spade terminal on either end to go from the alternator to the abandoned blue wire which used to go to the alternator harness.
Personally, I like the external regulator alternators, but they're rare. You could deal with a regulator issue without pulling the engine to get the alternator off... _________________ '71 panel, now with FI
