I'm about to weld a rear tortion housing back into a '69 bus that had it cut out for a rail, trike or irs conversion. Anyone done this before? Pics? _________________ 1965 Pearl White Caravelle Camper

Try searching for Torsion Tube. I know BusDaddy did a pretty good write up on it. _________________ 1978 Transporter 2.0 FI, BA6

Well, that was a repair to the frame where it rots around the tube, it sounds like Jake's is missing completely and laying nearby on the floor.
There was a few threads in the split bus forum doing the de-buggy donor thing, but I just can't find them at the moment.
Is the donor part from the same bus?, or another?, are there any body remnants on the part that could serve as reference points before you grind them off? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I'd have a friend bring a bay over and fabricate a quality alignment jig using the other bus, then clamp it to yours to hold the parts while you weld them up. Set it on a 2nd bus to fine tune it before you use it on yours. Once you have it you could sell it to the next guy doing the same job. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Just find another bus body in decent shape and transfer your mechanical over. |

I have a complete donor bus that had a bad cabin fire. My plan is to clean up the site on the red bus by making the burned edges on each surface into an identical geometrical slice that I can transfer to the donor. Then I'll weld up a few braces to locate the graft into proper position on the red bus (distance from the jackpoint, floor, etc.) Next, I'll weld a sleeve into the frame rail on the red bus. Then, I'll lift it up, measure again and weld away. I'll try to snap a few pics.

Not much happened this winter. Ordered the funky green front floor and it is beautiful! That will go in soon and I will start sprucing up the front cab and putting all the pedals and what not back together. Have to drill out or repair all of the drop gate bolt holes on the body. That is another daunting task I have been putting off. _________________ BUSLUST IS NOW IN HIGH SPRINGS FLORIDA!

Started here:
The first time it's been off of the ground in probably 18 years.
The donor
The jagged ends
Cut and sleeved
That's as far as we got today

Thanks for posting, some Bus's were sacrificed to build trikes back in the day no doubt. I have to same task ahead of me on a 69 Westy, not in a huge hurry to tackle that one. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |
