Great idea on the velcro in the 12v socket! Even the twist lock ones don't ever seem to hold the plug, or I'm doing something wrong. |

Still chipping away...
I added an oil pressure gauge. I used the Vanagain setup.
https://www.vanagain.com/shop/vanagon-oil-pressure-sensor-adapter-plate
This kit comes with a premade long cable that can extend from the sender to the front dash with plenty of extra cable. I ran the cable along the main electrical sleeve that is against the frame member on the drivers side middle underneath and then thru the front heater hose grommet at the base of the panel in front of the shifter.
It uses a sandwich plate which was very easy to install.
And I was able to place the gauge in the spot left from the A/C delete I did (another nice benefit of this wonderful mod). I used a piece of black plastic I have as a base plate for the gauge. The gauge kit includes an angled gauge mount part so you can direct the gauge up toward the driver enough to see the readout. I like that I can make the display blue like the radio...

I replaced the front door seals since the old ones were no longer sealing well and there is a lot of wind noise thru them.
https://www.busdepot.com/251837911b
I noticed that there was several anchor clips used on the original seal (never seen that on my '87, maybe they were not used or I missed them). The new seal has the holes for these so you can transfer them over. This also helps register the new seal in the correct place on the door. Three clips were by the hinges and one above the latch mechanism.
I used 3M weather strip adhesive 08001. It looks like the yellow snot the original seal was adhered with. It was 45 degrees out when I did the work and the 3M 08001 still adhered wonderfully. I feel good about this (so far).
One tube did both doors with plenty left over. I used an acid brush to spread the adhesive in the channel in the door and on the mating surface of the gasket.

No pics of final install though.

I noticed while camping that there was no way to see the time in the back of the bus and pulling out my phone got to be a pita. I added this clock using the neo magnets that I have been using everywhere. One magnet to the trim and the other to the back of the clock. (I have been very careful with polarity of the magnets on the devices so I can place any device where another magnet is).
And no back light to annoy me at night is a must.

It even comes with a spare battery!
I set it to 24H time and Celsius. I want to be getting used to ROW (Rest Of the World) standards and when I travel this is what I will be seeing everywhere anyway.

Cup holders. We must have cup holders.
I really like this style cup holder. It is very strong and easily holds large size drink cups as well as cans and smaller bottles. (It is pricey though.)
I have used them for over ten years on my '87 westy.
https://www.gowesty.com/product/cup-holders/3043/spring-loaded-cup-holder-black-?v=
One for the driver on the dash. I made a wedge out of balsa wood painted matte black. The cup holder and wedge are adhered to each other and the dash by silicone adhesive so I can remove it later if ever I need to.
One for the rear passenger. (There was no good place on the other side for a cup holder or I would have put one there too.
One on each side of the rear cabinets to use while in bed.
$33,075
$100 for 4 cup holders

I added a step to get to the NAHT inside easier and also a table leg holder on the passenger seat box so I can have the table across my lap.
(These are both mods I did to my '87 westy years ago and they really work well.)
I did remove the big bulky seat belt cover from the passenger B pillar since it gets in the way of the table. You can see the cover siting on the table.
$33,175
$50 for used step and table holder

Yeah, that was a bittersweet way to pass the time during my COVID shutdown. How a 30-yr old used van became the most expensive of our three cars is beyond me. _________________ '91 Westfalia GL Automatic (GTA "Turbo" Rebuild w/Peloquin) and 2.3L GoWesty Engine |
