Dave, I'm following your lead wrt the mounting of flexible solar panels on the roof of my wife's EV. I'm using the Coroplast, Eternabond and 3M VHB. If anything goes wrong, I'll be sure to blame you, but I'm sure you've done your homework, and that won't be necessary.

I copied my answers from the guy next to me....

But seriously that air gap will help. It would be better if I did not seal the edges but I decided I did not want crap getting in there.

Haven't been on in a while and just catching up on this thread but we shipped our '87 Syncro to Europe in 2015 and travelled around for almost a year. We had an amazing time and I am looking forward to following along with your travels. Best of luck getting everything sorted - I imagine COVID has changed your expected departure date? What is your plan?

Yep. I have had to push back the expected shipping date to this summer some time. It depends on the pace of vaccines and the state of herd immunity. I hope to be traveling by late summer/fall but we'll see.

Who did you use to ship your bus?

Out of Vancouver, BC, we used JustWorld Cargo and shared a container (this is pre-hightop) into Tilbury. On the way home we went Zeebrugges to Halifax RoRo and Busman helped organize that all for us. Are you planning on going the route of getting a temporary import permit into the Belgium and then re-importing it every six months to re-set the import of the vehicle? Did you find a good comprehensive insurance plan? That ended up being the most expensive cost for us. The usually third party coverage was mild, but to insure for total loss or theft was insane. Very exciting times ahead !! Our plan has always been to do it again - this time I think we would drive across the country to Halifax and RoRo there as well, now that we have the hightop.

I do not plan on full insurance since as you pointed out it is insane on price.I'll just take that chance.

I do not know of anyone who did an import when they sent their bus over.

Mine will go RORO out of Baltimore to Antwerp.

Yes, we did the same. Installed anti theft and were very careful about where we left it. We were asked to provide proof of importation in every country when we were stopped by the police because of our Canadian plates. Most of the time we were pulled over out of curiosity but in a few countries they went over the paperwork pretty thoroughly.

I love this so much. Great choice with the victron products. You'll be ready for lithium when you make the switch!

I was thinking about this the other day. I said that in April. Now look who is getting LiFePo4 Very Happy

I remember your comment about how I’ll be ready for LiFePO4. If Covid had not delayed everything it would be in Europe now with those AGMs. You called it, LiFePO4 install in the next month, and very glad too.

I have kept track of our energy use when camping and we regularly use 80ah in 24 hours. The AGMs are depleted in a day if no solar or engine running. The LiFePO4s will triple that.

The drivers seat armrest was very floppy. I had done it on my '87 westy many years ago and could not remember the secret decoder ring steps.

I used this topic to fix it.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=638908&highlight=arm+rest

And this GoWesty video mentioned in that topic is perfect.

Me too! Laughing

I've got a bunch of details to finish before I send it over. Hoping for early July.

I'll be fully vaccinated my May 1st so at least that is going according to plan....

Would I be correct in thinking that a few US road trips might be in order? Work the bugs out at home.

I know with this new to me 90, the more I drive it, the more there is to fix!

The more you drive it the more there is to fix? With a Vanagon? Really? But that's part of the fun, isn't it? Well, maybe not so much fun some of the time.

Added a 9 foot Blaze Cut to the engine lid.

First try.

But when I went to put the lid on the Blaze Cut hit the top of the AFM on the right side.

I moved the loops over and all is good now.

And the euroBus is helping out with the other bus projects. Cool

A very rare event taking place. John Charlton keeps this a secret but the NAHT occasionally molts in the spring. We were fortunate enough to just catch it in progress. You can see a very rare double molt as it sheds last years skins.

We were lucky enough to capture the molted skins before they flew off and they are now safely under our deck awaiting transplant onto the West Coast Westy and then the '87 Westy 3NTROPY.
