... went to the hobby store, in Owasso, Ok. to get a model today... walked in and right there was a 1:24th scale 21 window, Revelle VW Deluxe bus... was close to $100. I liked it... might get it, eventually... really into bugs though.
Looked on the sale table and only one VW - Skip's "fat chick" for twenty bux and a Toyota Corolla WRC, for $20 also and bought it... saw a nice 125cc café racer Benelli motor cycle also @ $68.00, on sale... was in an old faded box... I liked it best.
They had several bugs., not on sale. Most were 1968 and later... one was a Euro 1967 bug with low Euro bumpers... was okay if one likes 1967s, which I don't, but the Euro bumpers saved it... was $42.50. I did not like it that much.... They also had 2, like 1962 to 1967 stock single cabs at $43.00 each... pretty cool.
Might go back to look at the big Revelle at a C note and the '67 bug... they were okay. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

I like all old car models, and have built and restored a few models of American cars for friends, but I only build air-cooled Volkswagens for myself. So I guess my answer is No. 1.
Do you surf eBay? Your C note will fetch you practically any vintage kit, including an original 21-window Revell from 1967. The best bargains are kits that have been gently started. They usually cost less, and you don't feel guilty about building them. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

I must be thoroughly not up to date as I have never purchased anything on Ebay. I must admit, I am not very fond of auctions, of any type. I know lotza' people fare very well, but still, I keep it simple.
At the model store yesterday, I bought a Toyota Corolla that was gently started and got it for a good price. So, I know, Blue Baron, that your statement must hold some weight. But I juist have no interest in doing Ebay.. is my loss.
Ha, ha, I don't even have a cell phone yet.
One of these days, I should familiarize myself with Ebay... thanks for the encouragement. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

My vote was 'all VW models', but I especially like the vintage pre-68 models by Revell, Pyro, IMC and others. Nearly all my purchases in the last 20 years have come from ebay, although I did get a number of models as gifts. |

Buying on eBay is no more difficult than posting a poll here, and most purchases can be made with a credit card, so you no longer need a paypal account. Many items are on a buy-it-now, so it's no harder to use than Amazon (though the best deals are still in the auctions).
I still enjoy toy shows and trading with friends, but it can be limiting. (We also have a very good resource right here in The Samba classifieds.) _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

... that might be my biggest stumbling block and why I initially never purchased anything on Ebay... have no credit card and never had a paypal account.

No cel phone, paypal or credit card. You and I are not that much different. (I only have a credit card because a credit rating is necessary to be counted as part of the human race.) _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

What I learned about buying models back in the day is, If you see it, and you like it, then buy it.
It is not likely to be there the next time you go to the hobby shop.
ebay and internet has killed a lot of hobby stores, but it allows you to shop on to find the lowest price. _________________ Good Luck
