It has been on my list for a couple of weeks now to thank Tom for something he sent me. I am really kicking myself for not getting it done.
May you rests in peace Tom,

He was always quick to donate to a good cause. His ultimate donation is yet to come if things work out. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

This saddens me for his family. That guy was truly inspirational. Xatie and I felt very fortunate to meet up with him at his place in Hawaii. What a cool guy. Just a great soul. When you look up Cool in the dictionary, you’ll see a picture of brudah Tom.

There are many folks on the samba that I’ve grown to respect given their level of engagement, willingness to help and deep knowledge of all things Bay...many are already on this chain. I didn’t know Tom, but he’s definitely a regular here and it should make us all smile knowing that he’ll always be here on the samba. _________________ ------------------------

Aw man this is a real bummer to wake up to.
There are a lot of salty jerks on these forums (myself included) but Tom just was not one of those types. I gained a lot of knowledge from his posts and he was one of those guys where I always took his advice seriously.
He will truly be missed here.
Pouring one out for Tom,

I just logged on and saw this and am deeply saddened. My condolences to his family. He clearly lived life fully being a pilot, a skier and a bus pilot on the ground. The Tom Powell toe in adjustment method will always be embedded in my mind. He was always quick to jump in and help someone sort out a front end adjustment issue. To his daughters, I hope it is obvious how much your father was respected here. Gary, sorry for your loss. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.

Dreadful news, we'd never met but certainly shared some good quips and stories. My wife was a flight attendant so we have a natural brotherhood with pilots.
He just posted on the Vanagon threads a month or so ago, about the van running rich at the bottom of hills when steering the wheel. I certainly had no idea he was sick.
I'm so sorry Tom, and for your family and friends. You were clearly a great guy, see you in the clouds someday. _________________ ‘84 Westy, 2.1L with Digijet, 5.43 R+P, GT Gears

“No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.”
One of the good guys has left us; we are all diminished. RIP, Brother Tom |
