Looking through the Campmobile parts list am trying to figure out how they attached the birch long side panels on SO42.
Using the page below I see #20 - is this a J channel or a U channel?
Also I see #19 which I do not have nor have I seen one. Is this like #20? I guess #21 is also related.
Interesting fold down detail showing on the end of #21 - floor screw attachment maybe?
This is what I have for 19/20 from McMaster 8427A63
And as a comparison the upper rear quarter retaining trim

20 close:
19 and there's a vertical piece too not numbered in the diagram
Little tiny screws hold the wood. I'll try to post a piture tomorrow if no one else has. |

The.fordhams,
Yes, #19, 20, and 21 are U channels used to secure the wall panels to the vehicle. Light grey in color. My 67 Westy has all three. Sorry, currently no photos, but I could take some photos once I return home this weekend. Hopefully someone has some photos in their gallery for quick ref. Both #20 and #21 have fold downs to screw the channel to the floor.

Here's another shot of the short one (#21) installed in the closet:

The colour of the channels for the lower wood panels is I think the same tan colour as the spice rack bracket.
The channels for the back corner panel tops are polished aluminium. |

The brackets out of my '65so42 were pretty damn close to silver beige along with the hooks that hold the icebox and closet to the door jam.
The ones in my '62 flipseat looked a bit darker but they were dirty and had a lot of surface rust so... _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

The long side wall wood has little countersunk oval head slot screws I'm guessing size 6.
The metal strips have countersunk oval head phillips screws about size 8.

You can use bay Westy ceiling panel retaining channel for your SO-42 long/short wall; they are the same profile. _________________ WANTED:

Now that I think about it, maybe all SO-42's (or any) did not have a bottom edge panel channel for the long/short wall; I do know SO-23 and 58 kits did. You can see the side trim on the long wall in the above pic that is the same profile as the bay pieces too. _________________ WANTED:

This is how we did #21 on our SO42, screwed to the vertical piece on the left side, and then an exact width block of wood to hold the gap to the Armstrong vinyl on the right side.

On the same topic of attaching these interior panels, I have a question regarding a 1967 SO42 bench rear driver side panel.
Refer to items #8 and #10 from the campmobile illustration above.
Did the bench model panel stop at the cabinet? Therefore leaving the inside of the cabinet exposed to the painted corner?
Is this also why there are 2 versions of the molding that secures it?
Straight = Bench and Curved= Walkthru
Any photos from bench model SO42s would be great.
Thanks. |

Yes it does.
No pics but it goes a few inches past the rear cabinet

Thanks Crofty.
If anyone can send a photo showing the inside of the cabinet, I would be very grateful. |
