I have an 84 with a tach. From what I understand the 9th pin in the connector on the back of the dash panel is supposed to be green. Mine is not. It is red/black. I was told this 9th pin is for the tach.

I am trying to hook my tach back up while doing an engine conversion and I have no green wires in the engine compartment junction box which is what I was told to look for.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Yes, in 84 Wolfsburg models VW used a red/black wire for the tach. The engine end of that wire run is on the ignition coil. What color wires do you have plugged into each side of the coil?

Well...my coil has been removed.

This is where I am right now in the process...

Look inside the black engine compartment wiring box. You may need to use a meter to find the exact wire.

OK. I messed around trying to find it last night but this was after being out in the garage working on this install for about 10 hours. I was exhausted. I will get back out there this evening and give it a go.

Thanks.
