Once they are welded their is no going back. I will see Dave at 9 today. I can tell him not to do it and it won’t hurt his feelings. He hates the work they take to do anyway. |
hmm..
Syncros work just fine at higher rpms.
I shift syncros in my drag box for many years.
Never bent or worn out.
I use light disks. |

agreed this is the problem . big single 228mm disc ,the poor syncros can't take it .
I bent all mine as well ,didn't know until pulled down for gear change and inspection . still shifted ok just a bit notchy feeling .
was using Kennedy dual disc , worked great just disc combined weight to much .
shift rpm was around 7k give or take .and ran with stock shifter to slow shift speed down . _________________ B.C's fastest street legal vw , June 2006 Hot VW's feature car 9.81 sec at 145.26mph.

I can try to slow down shifting, try is the key word.
Dave said they were starting to bend, glazed over was a term he used. it wasn't to bad to where he wanted to go to the faceplating, that was his son's idea.
He has upgraded syncros and they were in it. Going with the same and one more upgrade, a pinon nut that wont let it back off(might be called something else). something new and for 85.00 might as well use it.
I have 190 ft torque at 5500 rpm. I'm sure that can't help and the clutch is holding good. If this issue does not go away I will go with another clutch set-up.
Should have trans back late today or tomorrow. Depends when the brown truck shows up with the Diff. 7 days from tear down to fixed is pretty amazing. 5 of the days was shipping. _________________ 1961 Ragtop, Autocraft 2783cc for street/strip 10k miles and counting...230.84 HP to the wheels thru Muffler 13.4 to 1 on E85

Trans is back in the car. 7 days from removal to install with 5 days in shipping for the tbd. Pretty good having dave on retainer.
Put new German 091 synchros in and a few other upgrades. The diff had a failure. Due to abuse by me. That’s what Gary told dave. Could of been heat treating. Doesn’t really matter, he replaced all the internal parts for free and covered shipping both ways. Pelaquin is a Great company. To warranty race parts is rare.
He said to lock it for all burnouts would help.

I have driven 2 tanks of gas thru it. Its perfect.
Trans shifts great, Locker works like it is suppose to. Did a burnout today at daves shop and no issues.
I'm working on getting data from the CHT probes, Not sure what hot is or normal, my heads are far from normal. It least I will have a # to look at and make my own oh shit its hot #'s
Another week of playing with it and then I will try E85, got the 14.5 gallon tank, welding the fittings on it tomorrow. I have 1 small line that is braided with rubber,(tight turn that Teflon would not make.) I will have to change that one, its under the tank.
I need head temps with gas so I can log the difference that E85 makes. _________________ 1961 Ragtop, Autocraft 2783cc for street/strip 10k miles and counting...230.84 HP to the wheels thru Muffler 13.4 to 1 on E85

here is some head temp numbers I found from my old nitrous day .
C.E heads avg 350-370 deg f race fuel driven back and forth to pits
cruising streets 325 deg f
with E85 ill say temp avg would be 225 deg area
I WOULD NOT GO OVER 400 DEG F !!!!
that's when valve seats start coming loose !!
learned that one the hard way _________________ B.C's fastest street legal vw , June 2006 Hot VW's feature car 9.81 sec at 145.26mph.

Drove over 150 miles in the last 3 days. Heads stayed under 355. With #3 being the hottest. The other 3 were 20 to 30 degrees cooler. Exhaust temps were under 1100.
Tuned a 1915 with 12.5 to 1 on e85 today. He has been running it for a while. We got it close. He needs F2 tubes. 100 idles and 225 mains. Stays under 13 and idles around 12.5. I put my F2’s in it and he said it was way better.
Soon I will have my 14.5 gallon back from powder coat and then I will install it. Get a few more weeks of gas jetting and cht temps recorded. Then see how cool E85 really is. _________________ 1961 Ragtop, Autocraft 2783cc for street/strip 10k miles and counting...230.84 HP to the wheels thru Muffler 13.4 to 1 on E85

I don't no. no sensor and I forgot my temp gun, we tuned it in the parking lot after a cars and coffee.
The guy who's car it is said the oil temp is way cooler and its hard to start on cold mornings, and here in cali we dont really have cold mornings. He went from a 9 to a 8 on the plug(9 for the NOS)
He has a 200 shot of nitrous on it, that's not a typo, He has blown it up 2 times. Also has no way of retarding for the nos, so he retards it the entire time if he is going to use it.
I helped him for the knowledge of learning as much as I can on the E85 before I start trying to tune mine.
His engine has a few issues that don't help the tuning. His linkage is garbage, one carb opens 1/16 before the other one even things about it (Jaycee push pull) Someone put 1/8" hole in each butterfly.

He is on here also but has only posted a few times. _________________ 1961 Ragtop, Autocraft 2783cc for street/strip 10k miles and counting...230.84 HP to the wheels thru Muffler 13.4 to 1 on E85

if he had a dist ignition he needs to put a extra pick up in it thats retarded the amount he needs. then just a flip of a switch for a bottle run.( untill he is ready to step up to a system that will do it all. it's a lot cheeper than a motor. |

Car has been running good. Made some small timing changes, It idles at 1050 at 15 degree then it dropped to 12 off idle then up the ramp. I moved the 12 to 14 to see if it was crisper off idle. also changed the first retard to be off 1100 down 1.5 degree, it was at 2200. This way if I get bad gas or something it will be retarded form 1100 up. set rev limiter to 7800
Changed to 60 idles and 90 holders, had 65 idles with 100 holders, Just got 80 and 90 holders from aircooled.net. The 80's made it to rich with the 60's, went to the 90's and with no other change the Idle went from 11.0 to 14.0, adjusted to get it to 13.+-, Will be driving to Carbs and coffee in Orange tomorrow. Hoping it is perfect.
Other than that the trans has done several burnouts while locked, no issues at all. shifts great.
also my 88mm Marine crank was ordered Friday. I dont know any of the details just it will be a 88 and it takes 6 months to get.
Shawn said 88 X 103 or 105
I will be driving it home tomorrow, not the flatbed like last time. _________________ 1961 Ragtop, Autocraft 2783cc for street/strip 10k miles and counting...230.84 HP to the wheels thru Muffler 13.4 to 1 on E85

Robert did you go with strange brakes over wilwood due to Strange being lighter?
Could you dm a price to duplicate that brake system, including brake lines , calipers/rotors , master cylinder and beam?
