Guys,
Look at this picture and tell me what I need to get to make it right. 1971 tin top camper. The arrow is pointing to what I think is a vent but it's open and anything could fall in. The circle is the fill port but probably needs the right cap to be right. Any help would be appreciated.

G, the filler pipe is wrong. Hence the wrong cap. Yes vent pipe I’d missing. I wonder if it has OEM water tank in there. I can get you more info after work and some pictures if needed _________________ Keep on Busin'

I think that vent is missing the pipe to the ceiling. What does the ceiling look like above it? _________________ All the redemption I can offer, girl, is beneath this dirty hood

On my westy it's a beige plastic pipe with a sharp angle right before it meets the ceiling. It fits into a hole in the roof that has a plastic cover on the outside. It's covered by the poptop. I don't know if it is the same on the tin top. |

It’s a tin top conversion. I bet no hole in the top for vent
Not needed, in any event. _________________ .ssS! |

See the filler pipe has a lip under threads to keep the pipe above counter. Disregard the funnel

I’ve seen tintops with the horseshoe cover on the outside roof for the vent pipe. _________________ Keep on Busin'

No hole in the roof and not planning to cut one. I just need something to keep the crap out of the stock water tank. Good to know that the filler pipe isn't stock so I guess we can live with the abs cap. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

If you don't plan on cutting a hole in your roof for a useless vent pipe (which is smart) then all you need is the correct water filler thingie (BusDepot has them right here) and a screw cap for the (now disregarded) vent pipe. |

The fill pipe is the one closest to the center of the van, and the one closest to the sliding door is for a vent that went all the way through the roof, both on the tintops and the pop tops. For you plumbers out there, is there any need for an exterior vent, or was it placed there just to satisify some obscure legal necessity? My experience is that it was completely unnecessary. I took mine off in about 1984. I certianly cannot see any need for venting a fresh water tank, with the exception of to keep the pump from pulling against a vacuum created by the pump. I am 600 miles away from my 1973(which has the same cabinet and plumbing) but if I remember, my fill cap is vented. _________________ 1969 Deluxe, owned since 1973
