Evidently they are still making dumb folks...a '65 Beetle I'm rehabbing for a neighbor got its engine pulled yesterday, and a fun pull too as the apron was bashed in good, and I found three shipping clips and a throwout plate separate from the pressure plate in the bell housing. Appears to have been a recent screwup as everything looked brand-new.

Guess that is why it had a hard pull at the pedal. Whoopsy.

Negative- we all know what that condition looks like. "Look, a screwy clutch!".
Plus there is no interesting damage as the unit was not installed for long before it found its way to my shop.

I admit in my youth I left in the three clips on the PP... but we all have to learn somehow, right?

That's a big 10-4! My list of mistakes is long, silly and florid.
