|
|
I plan on purchasing a RMW Ladder after reading many favorable comments about the ladder on this site. However I'm not sure I understand the setup. So I purchase the ladder for $249.95(currently out of stock) and I have to purchase either the pinch weld adapter ($99.955) or the rock sliders ($499.99). Either one will attache the bottom of the ladder to the van. If I buy the rock sliders I can move the ladder left or right and if I purchase the pinch weld adapter the ladder remains in a fixed position. Or can I purchase just the ladder? |

The standard ladder fits in the jack hole on the driver side. The pinch weld adaptor accessory is for folks who want to move it fore and aft on the pinch weld instead of using the jack point. The rock slider option is for people who have sliders and need to mount it to them (while also moveable).
Buy just the ladder unless it needs to move. _________________ 1985.5 - Vanagon Westfalia Weekender Wolfsburg Edition - LH8U - "Penny"

I recently installed the ladder on my doka utilizing the pinch weld adapter -
Before I was limited to the rock slider mount option - which I really didn’t need - or the jack mount which would would, for me, limit install to right next to the drivers door which seemed awkward. It does require one of the the three. Both the pinch weld and the slider mount would allow the ladder to be moved fore or aft in any position tho this would require loosening and tightening the bolts on the clamps on both top and bottom - a bit of a chore I’d think.
The pinch weld setup seems to work well for me - may have a little more flex then the other two mounts but handles my 210 lbs self slinging tires onto the roof basket just fine (better than my arm does anyway )
The folding arm that “bumps” the ladder out from the sidewall gets filled with dirt and one needs to inspect to make sure it’s locked in position before climbing or driving away but it seems to hold up well to the abuse. Very happy with it. _________________ '91 Westfalia, Bordeaux Red Pearl 2.1L 2wd Auto
