I was asked to post about my rain fly wing that I made for our awning. It keeps the rain from getting into the slider door opening and also lets us sit in the passenger seat with the window open a few inches in the rain. Really helps with keeping ventilation in the rain and makes the awning more usable for us.
The awning is made from some 10oz sunbrella I had left over from building a yurt. I tried various shapes and settled on a triangle like this. The sides are about 5x5x7 feet. There is a snap on the one corner to attach to the awning cover. Bungees are used in various places as shown to secure it. The pics do a better job of explaining the attachments. You should experiment with on old sheet before committing to the final fabric. 😀

Great! I see what you did there...
Having just installed an 8-foot "Cheap-Ass-Chinese-Awning" (CACA brand... ) I was looking for a way
to add some coverage over the passenger door forward to the A pillar. This is just what a guy needs!
Thanks for posting!

That's awesome, thanks for sharing!
I've had something like that in mind for a while, been looking at triangle Sun Shades but they're mostly very large and not waterproof. I usually have trees nearby so hadn't considered the wiper arm as a securing point. _________________ '91 GL - 2.1 automatic named Klaus for weekend adventures.

I'd like to know the answer as well. Looks like the traditional rain fly maybe--the one that covers the front of the pop-up tent and the luggage rack? I'm thinking about making a rain fly, and I like the idea of rolling it up, in place. _________________ '90 Westfalia GL Automatic |

Cool idea Dave, and didn't know Jonce (Fancher) made that luggage rack fly.
Per your awning fly, in a similar vein I've been thinking about a "rain and wind wall" that could used on either end of our Fancher awning as in our case anyway, wind blockage can be Uge.
Well done. _________________ ‘84 Westy, 2.1L with Digijet, 5.43 R+P, GT Gears

Sorry for not responding. Somehow I did not get a notice that there was a reply.
That burgundy rolled up thing is a rain fly for the top luggage rack.

I use it to shield the front tent opening in the rain so I can leave it partially open and get good ventilation. With that and the jalousies open we can get a great breeze even in a hot humid thunderstorm... |
Thanks for the response. That's awesome--I didn't realize that it came ready to roll up and be left in place with the canvas. _________________ '90 Westfalia GL Automatic |

That's great way to store Jonce's rain fly!! I keep on rolling it up, slipping it into the sleeve and putting it into the upper shelf in the hatch... _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Fancher’s website describes it rolled, in position (....words words words....) but doesn’t show a photo of that benefit. For me, If it was packed away somewhere, I'd never use it. If not staged & ready to use like DObryan it would never get used. And not thinking of that, I wouldn't buy it.
They need Dave’s pic (or their own) cuz nobody's gonna log that benefit in their mind without a photo. The internet answers customer questions 24/7/365; it's the most amazing salesman. The internet is visual, photos are almost "free". _________________

Regarding the subject....Rain fly wing with awning. Dave I'm gonna make me one too!
If it was made with real thin tent material (like a backpacking tent).... could it fold under the awning and then roll up with the awning? I have the ARB, it seems like you could fold it under, then "pin it" in place with the support pole, then roll up the awning normally. _________________

I bet that would work. _________________ Dave O
