|
|
So I pulled all the tin off my engine to have it powdercoated and I'm now getting around to putting it all back together and my brother mentioned that I should have a spacer that goes in between the two fans. When I pulled it apart it had the paper gasket, but no washer. Ive never had an issue with the motor in that regard, do later fuel injected motors not use the spacer?/
I'm also in the proceed of converting a T3 motor to T1 cooling to put in my bus and I remember that when I pulled the fan off that motor, it didnt have a spacer either. Is that something that people chucked back in the day? _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

The spacer was used when you needed extra clearance between the back of the small fan and the shroud due to different manufacturing tolerances stacking up. Most used it, but not all as you have found. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Ah I see. Ok so the washer is not always needed but am I correct in assuming the paper gasket should always be used? I did reinstall that using a new one. _________________ '65 1500 S [quareback]

Yes, use the paper gasket. It's there to keep the small aluminum fan from "welding" (rusting) itself to the large steel fan. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
