|
|
I was just checking my storage for three original hoops that came along in the parts stash for my 1959 Double-Cab. I'm going to need two of these bows if I ever want to run the original hoop set, so I was seeing if I needed anything for them. Unfortunately I have them tucked up against a wall, with a Oval Kabriolett blocking access to them. So I reached in with my cell phone to snap a few photos of them.
In reviewing the photos, I see that what I suspect to be the rear bow doesn't have the rectangular rubber bumper held by two rivets, this bow has a round rubber bumper held by one screw (could it be an outer gate bumper?). From a distance I can't see a second hole (like in the hoop closest to the drywall). Odd? Can anyone shed any light on this "round" bumper? Were round bumpers ever used, or did someone just cobble up a bumper before this came to me? Odd that there is no second hole. The middle bow in the photos seems to be the forward bow and has the metal tab that would be bolted to the cab bulkhead about a foot and a half up from the bed surface. Any thoughts or knowledge about this "round" bumper vs rectangular bumper thing?

Hi Eric, Howdy Barb!
Long time no meet! Thanks for the link to the above photo, I guess I should have cruised the Bay forum to check out their hoops to look for differences. That might explain the single round bumper. I guess I'll be needing to order the repro pair of rectangular rubber bumpers (from either Derek or "Jack-Fatboy"). and getting a new set of wooden slats made. I'll pick the two best bows for future use on the DC. Luckily I don't need to rush, as when the original German set is installed, I can't drive it inside my 7' threshold garage. I do have the cab roof height all-steel Brazilian made tilt and frame on the DC now which can easily enter the garage without disassembly. Thanks for the tip!

That would be extremely difficult, as his shop is under his house. _________________ .

Not that hard, have jacked up a few houses now. Biggest one was a 1911 two story, and built a full basement in hard pan tight under it. Excavating that was the major pain. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
