Hello Eurovanners, owned it three days, 4th owner. 121k miles, paid $19k. Oklahoma and Colorado vehicle, no rust. Been perusing this site prior to and post purchase, love ya, love the van also, no buyer's remorse.
* Most everything works, I'll figure out the little things.
* Clean Carfax, four autotrans flushes, original autotrans.
* Maintenance records since 2010.
Link to photos from the seller, it was consigned to Glen Shelly Auto, glenshelly.com, who were very good to work with. https://www.cloudbaseimaging.com/Cars/1995-Volkswagen-Eurovan-Camper/i-BXTgjWn/A
I'll split up this opening thread so it isn't TLDR, continued next . . . . _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

* OEM antenna 4/1/16
* New coach batt 8/23/16

Needs a lift, 7" at the LP tank, need more height. I saw the GoWesty lift threads, I'll do that.
So far, so good. No leaks, no worries. 20.72mpg on the first tank with 91 octane. We like it. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

Work done so far:
- GoWesty rear bugscreen
- CaveVan Cole did the lift front/rear for me
- 16x7 ET42 Audi 5-spoke wheels, PN 8E0601025C, PlastiDip'd
- Hankook Dynapro RF10 225/70/16's 103T, 1929lb load capacity
- Aerospace 303 on the door/roof seals
- WeatherTech driver/passenger window shields, windshield sunscreen
Not much needed to be done, just personalizing. Fridge works on LP, furnace works. Deployed the Carefree SidewinderII awning, is in excellent condition.

Next things:
- Curtains. I don't mind the stock accordion blinds but we'll make our own with color to them. Done it before using suitable outdoor material. Sew or rivet Velcro to the material, rivet Velcro to the Eurovan, adjust the curtains as you please.
- Bugscreens for driver/passenger windows, side door, roof vent. Velcro on fiberglass window screen will work, done it before. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

The furnace:
26 degrees F at the house, so I fire up the furnace for a test. I climb in 20 minutes later and it's 60 degrees inside. I'm happy I didn't buy the Vanagons I was looking at. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

Test drove another '95 EVC with the neighbor. He was thinking about getting one, he'd had one before. The test '95 is same as mine, 92k miles, noticed that it had the same hard upshift into 4th gear, same hard downshifts from fourth to third and third to second. We checked the trans fluid, it was full and pretty clean.
I suppose that is just a characteristic of the vehicle, no reason to worry.
Went through it some more today, Aerospace 303'd the outside plastic, the fridge vent plastic cover absorbed a lot of 303. Plastic loves 303.
Removed the cargo box via the tiedowns and the center screw, no significant rust. Some surface rubbing rust, touched it up with Rustoleum Rust Reformer, then reinstall with plenty of anti-seize and a bead of silicone. Yay, Western vehicles. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

Installed a one-piece vinyl front floormat from autoanything, was a nice fit except for around the autoshifter.
Got two Lusso behind-the-seat storage organizers for the front seats, the lower straps don't work, but I'll be able to rivet D-rings under the front seats to get them strapped securely with carabiners and tests show they don't interfere with the swivel.
This will be a nice camping unit instead of hooking up the trailer to the 4Runner. I'll be getting a Camco cassette toilet, I know those are nice, easy to dump. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

Did a few more things:
-- The Lusso seatback organizers are fine, my ineptitude caused me to think D-rings would be needed. Here's a link, they hold a lot of gear, saving cabinet space. https://www.lussogear.com/products/seatback-organizer
-- There was a gap at the bottom of the sliding door, a lot of dirt and debris was sitting in the channel. Flushed it out and sprayed in Rustoleum Rust Reformer. The original weatherstrip is fine, so instead of trying to adjust the door in I'm trying for now gluing in some foam weatherstrip to fill the gap. If that doesn't work I'll try another method.
-- Removed the OEM accordion blinds from the side windows, put 1/4" foam weatherstrip behind the molding hoping the buzzes will decrease.
-- Painted and clearcoated the outside plastic vent covers. They look good from a distance. I don't care if they don't look purty up close, the object was to prevent further UV deterioration. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

Next:
-- Fix the crack on the roof. Previous owner put Gorilla tape on it, seems OK, no mildew smell in the interior, but no. I bought some aluminum bar at Lowe's, 1/16" thick, 1.5" wide. My plan is cut it into sections, rivet it on with appropriate caulking in between.
-- Find a second table and rear headrests.
-- Flush the front door drains, I noticed they're caked with dirt and debris. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

Just a quick reply here to convey that I'm watching and appreciating your thread updates here.
I'd love to see pics of what you do w/the aluminum bar top fix. Are you planning on using some adhesive in addition to the rivets, to secure it? |

I'll get some pics. I got 3M Marine Sealant 5200 as recommended on the cracked roof thread, I'll seal the crack then rivet two sections of bar on each side and maybe 4-6 across the top. I have 1/2" grip range rivets, that should work.
Have to wait til Sunday to clean the Gorilla Tape off, then Monday seal/rivet. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

Today I had a shop flush and bleed the brake system and adjust the rear brakes. Big difference.
The foam weatherstrip I rubber cemented to the sliding door rubber seal is hanging in there. If it comes off I'll try cementing some rubber stairmat I have to the door itself. Maybe should have done that in the first place.
Noticed a teeny ATF leak. Yay. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

Cut and drilled the aluminum bar for the roof crack, the visible ones on the sides I thought I'd doll them up with a copper sheath. 3/16th inch rivets with 1/2" grip range. I have brass sheet also, and textured brass sheet. I won't be doing the work until it warms up a bit, so might go with brass.

Pics of the weatherstrip to cover the gap at the bottom of the side door. The bottom channel was packed with dirt and debris. Hosed it clean, then Simple Green, then more hosing, then Rustoleum Rust Reformer.

Did the roof crack repair. I'm satisfied, not ecstatic. You can see the propable culprit for the crack in the driverside pic - Kwik-Rail roof rack. The base is even bent.
* Pulled the tape off that was on there
* Goo Gone to remove the tape residue
* Isopropy alcohol to prep the plastic
* 3M Marine Sealant 5200
* 1/16" x 1.5" aluminum bar hacksawed into 2" segments, covered with brass sheet
* Sealant laid, then drill 3/16" holes for rivets. Didn't need 1/2" grip range, 1/4" grip range was fine.
* 3M seal the rivet holes, seal the top of the rivets afterwards. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979

Looking at the roof crack I see another bead of the 3M is needed, seems to have shrunk into the crack. That is some nasty adhesive, I think I'll use it for multipurpose from now on. _________________ '68 Bus in West Germany, 1977-1979
