The brake line divider for the rear brake lines is at floating position.
Looking at the remainings it would best fit to the position on the picture.
But there is no hole for the screw anymore. The sheet metal has been changed once.

Could anyone help me out with a samba thread or measures? I prefer something like xx mm's from left and yy mm's from top or so.
Maybe also the size and kind of the original screw, because it's missing and I can't find anything in the parts list.

Thanks for help (pls don't kill me for the welding and the wrong cabin floor - it wasn't me Sad )

Grüezi Marius,
originally VW welded a M6 hex head screw (Sechskantschraube) to the crossmember. the T fitting is held by a SW10mm nut and a spring washer. I can't give you any exact measurements, but this pic should pretty much show you where it needs to sit. untouched og condition of my ex 1953 Single cab.

Danke Günter

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for.

Just for curiosity what is that fuel hose for which is going into the left member? Do you remember?

Marius, it is exactly that, a part of the stock fuel line. this is a picture from my 53 Single Cab (Pritschenwagen) which has the tank in the treasure chest area.

I had to take out the original brake line from front to rear because of rust. I made a new one and it looks fine.

As the master cylinder was corroded I had to go for a new one. I bought a new 22mm Master single circuit cylinder which looked the same as the original one and was pretty happy to have found that one.

Now I realised that it just looked identical from outside. But inside the bore is 9mm deeper than the original one. So the original plunger is to short for this brake cylinder. Mine has an overall length of about 115mm and I don't think that I get another 9mm out of the thread.

I think the master cylinder I bought is maybe for a beetle.

Anyone any idea?
Happy with any help.

Nope. The original one was 22mm diameter, also in the spare parts cataloque, so I looked for a 22mm diameter.
It is a VEWIB 211 611 011J. Will it work, when I make a new plunger part which is 10mm longer?

as Greg said in his classified:

It has a 19.05mm bore which is the correct size for your barndoor bus.

If you use a 22mm '55 and later master cylinder in your bus, you will find that you have unusually stiff braking and very poor performance.

Thanks Kasten68 for this info. I haven't found that comment of Greg.

I decided to keep with the 22mm cylinder until I get a 19mm one. Therefore I made a longer plunger.

I checked with hydraulic formulas. It is true. With a smaller diameter you get a higher system pressure and more play until you reach the pressure. So it will give a smoother control to the brakes.

That would also match with my '53 spare parts catalogue. First they used a 22mm cylinder in the production but soon changed it to 19mm. So in the spare parts you still find the order no's for 22mm repair parts but there is no order no for a new 22mm cylinder anymore.

It would be very interesting to find a service note of let's say mid '52 where they suggest to replace main cylinders with 19mm versions in case of replacement.
