Front plate is euro. The rear plate is a Michigan manufactur plate

Wow, that possibly means that it's an official VoA vehicle plying our roads, 'cause I think their headquarters are in MI. I'm not sure what to read of that, but it can't be a bad sign.

M plates mean it’s a manufacturer car.
Certainly being tested prior to production.
We use M plates when we are out testing our prototypes ( I work for Hyundai/Kia). If they were in NorCal,they were could have been testing fog-up performance. We just returned from a week-long trip to the Portland area for the same thing.
Or, the electronics group is based out of Belmont. They could be testing anything.

I have a colleague who lives in Eindhoven Netherlands and also has a T4. He was telling me about the new VW Westy's and said they can reach $150k, and that's Euro $. That really puts it into perspective for me, looking at a $20k T4 isn't as painful.

Yeah that looks great. Would be great to see them roaming about here, though I certainly could not afford one until it was about 15 years old and mostly neglected...

I suspect that mvaska's take is right on, which makes sense, despite being the least exciting possibility...

Someone told me that VW execs do this often: they ship over the cars they want to be driving and then do just that.

This car will never see “normal” titling in the USA - it’ll probably get shipped back over to Europe as soon as Bjorn or Sven or Gunter gets transferred home

I emailed one of my work colleagues in Berlin.. he got on thier website and told me that are anywhere from 44K to 70K euro depending on you options...

$65K for a brand new van with stick shift... sign me up...
