Thanks everybody for the comments. I had a little surprise as I started cutting out the lower rockers. The old shirt in the rocker Bondo trick. At first I thought I came up on some old cash lol.

Crazy that they'd shove clothes in there like that to get wet and radiate the moisture all around inside there.

Yeah man woulda been nice if it were cash 💵
I’ve found that it’s easier to replace the whole outrigger and jack point then try to replace the jack point alone. I zip right through it with the air chisel.
Ill pre drill and get the outriggers and inner rocker in tonight. _________________ GFK

It was some type of thin polyester type material kinda like a thin curtain so it was kinda light weight. Had it been cotton it would have killed those rockers completely _________________ GFK

First outrigger done, jack point #1, inner rocker fitted. Will only need a partial top hat replacement.

Holy shit..! Every heard the expression "take your time"?!?
Nice job. Question, what or how are you treating the interior panels of the rust in there when you have the outer skin off? Sand blasting it and repainting? Acid neutralizing it? I haven't seen you cover that aspect of your rebuilds. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Other than brushing on Ospho that’s all I need. This bus here was just dusty in there with original paint still. I’m not a big fan of sandblasting at all.
If I were doing a rotisserie Restoration I would do differently though.
As for the insides of the rockers I use a rust bullet type preventative. _________________ GFK

If I needed that kind of work done and you were willing to do it, I'd drive from California to Texas. How do you cool your weld points? How are you attaching the vertical folded joint. |

Be sure to paint it after applying Ospho. Ospho isn't for long-term, outdoor use. Just a paint prep. Nice project! _________________ I've never met a Bus I didn't like.

I don’t do a continuous weld ever. I jump around from all over the panel in order to keep the panel from warping. There’s no fast way around it on a panel. This takes hours and hours to do with a lot of breaks in between. It kills your knees physically so I work on rubber mats.
On the vertical fold I have to pre drill the folded lip all the way down prior to fitting the new panel then I use a ton of vise clamps from the engine compartment and in some cases self tappers and clecos to cinch the metal back together tight, plug weld, then remove the self tapper and weld up its hole then more plug welds all from the inside of the engine compartment. It’s a game of Twister to say the least. I pre drill the inner wheel house lip the same way and plug weld it from inside the wheel well rather than drilling holes in the panel.
Busses aren’t easy but I do think the average guy with a welder can do one themselves. I’m used to welding on Chevys and busses are a whole different ball game. Thanks to all the guys in here doing their own metalwork those topics showed me the way. _________________ GFK

Thanks for the heads up. I never knew that. I used it for the first time on my Turkis bus. _________________ GFK

I still have to get my lower vertical extensions that go into the rockers. In the mean time I will work on the passenger side rocker removal.
