Looking for a 356 or a Beck replica in the future, I am new to the air cooled motos and replicas. I have a little bit of car knowledge I have owned 40 cars in my life time and built two race cars. Every car has some unique traits and I am sure the replicas are no different. I will not be looking for any home built cars, I like to drive fast and have my eye on one with a 2110... Here are some of my questions
1. Can an air cooled motor have AC hooked to it.
2. Looking specifically for builds from JPS or Beck as I like the outlaw look. wish I could afford a Emory
3. Any body issues I should look for specifically?
Any direction will be extremely appreciated |

Yes it's possible to add an AC system to an aircooled VW motor.
Look for Speedster specific forums. I think there are a few.
As for body issues, look for overall fit and shape. It doesn't matter if you're buying new or used, make sure everything lines up.
Here's a link that might help in your search:

Both JPS and VS have recently changed hands and moved location. Long thread on recent build delays with JPS (like double contracted build time and still no car). VS is probably the biggest "low" cost builder (still $30k). Their name changed too with move from CA to AZ. Will be sorting issues with VS and JPS. Beck is higher quality build - and cost. For most part VS and JPS are pan based - probably will change in near future. Beck is a custom tube chassis - so better handling and more interior room. I'd look to Subaru power if you want real heat and AC. Many want wind up windows (a Cabriolet vs a Speedster with side curtains). That features makes IMs attractive. Early IMs were VW pan based but later ones are custom chassis with VW, Subaru or Porsche 911 --- even VW/Audi water cooled engines. If you are handy and enjoy the wrenching part of hobby - there is nothing wrong with a CMC/FF even if home built - just understand you may have to go through it. Depending on your state - it is often easier to register a VW pan based car - plus they are often emissions exempt. Prices are going up - bying slightly used often saves big $$ - they aren't for everyone so there are low mileage ones out there.
There is a thread on SOC (mentioned above) for those thinking of buying a Speedster. It's informative reading. _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |

make sure you have adequate brakes, not the original drums. You will die. |
