After my wife heard me talking about all the cars I want over the last 28 years we've been together, she challenged me to come up with a list of cars over a 20 year period. One car per year. I chose 1956-1975. Here is the list.

1956 Chevy 2dr wagon
1957 Jeep FC
1958 Ford Ranchero
1959 Chevy Corvette
1960 Rambler Six
1961 Chevy 409
1962 VW Notchback
1963 Ford Galaxie 500
1964 Chevy Bel Air wagon
1965 Mercury Comet
1966 Ford F-100
1967 Dodge Cornet RT
1968 Plymouth GTX
1969 Plymouth RoadRunner
1970 Dodge A100 van
1971 Plymouth Barracuda
1972 AMC Gremlin X
1973 Volvo 145
1974 Ford Gran Torino Wagon
1975 Chevy Cosworth Vega

18 US cars, 1 from Germany, one from Sweden. I lean heavily towards Mopar cars in the late 60s/early 70s. If I had to pick just 5 years from my list, it would be 67-71.

1952 Porsche 356 Aluminum Sport Roadster (a/k/a America Roadster). Only 16 built and the precursor to the Speedster. In fact, they had the same internal design number 540. That, or my uncle's ex 550 Spyder. Crying or Very sad

hint #1: I have owned 3 MGBs

Enzo Ferrari said "The only true American sports car is the Jeep", referring to the CJ2A

Plymouth Superbird.
Early 70's I was 8 or 9 years old and walked out of the grocery store and there was one sitting in the parking lot. At the time I had no idea what it was. I was awe struck. That nose, the giant wing and the colors! Being that young it was like seeing a mythical creature that you didn't know existed appear before your eyes.

Now i would say:
Plymouth Superbird
Jaguar XKE
Ferrari LM250
Porsche 356A

Yes. there were three of them running around town in my youth, a yellow one, a green one, & an orange one. I parked my mk1 mini next to one a few years ago at a local cars-&-coffee & it was exactly half the length of the Super Bird.

I'll also have to add the BMW 507.

Not sure if it's exactly "iconic" but a home crafted model t or a speedster along these lines. They look like so much fun to drive.

Some good cars on this list.

Two of my personal favorites are the DeLorean and Amphicar.

I feel like a Thing could be "converted" with only a (very relatively) little effort.

Oh, and I just saw that they were made in Germany. Even better!

Two spring to mind,
1960's Mercedes 190SL, just a classy ride.

And the Volvo P1800 sports car. Always wanted..... never got. The ONLY Volvo I ever really coveted.

I have so many that it's hard to choose, but I completely agree with Bob.

Others that I like: 1961-62 & 65 Impalas (2dr hardtop, wagons, 4 dr hardtops),
1963-65 Rivieras, 66-67 Chevelles. Growing up my folks had a 1965 Impala ss. I still want one some days.

I’m driving one of my dream cars and they are cheap now. 95 Lincoln town car, last of the big 4 doors body on frame V8 rear wheel drive. Shares most mechanicals with Ford crown Vic and mercury full size.

Parts are crazy cheap, paid less than 1000 dollars running, have a salvage yard less than 20 miles down the road with 5 parts cars and more arrivals on the way... Car gets 28 mpg highway and people get out of the way when they see me coming. Triple black resembles death Mobile from the blues brothers movie. Cheap thrills and very comfortable ride, power everything and decent factory sound, interval wipers, powerful heat and air, cruise, tilt, leather interior and a trunk big enough to hide dead bodies. 😀 pristine low mileage examples less than 5 large. I’d post a pic but that would displease the management here👮🏾‍♂️
