Has anyone ever had the following symptom I'm having. 1979 Westy all stock. Brake pedal feels strong when applying brakes maybe 2 inches down. then the pedal will suddenly drop down another inch or 2 then feel strong again. I haven't lost any brake fluid. hoses look ok. Im suspecting master cylinder? pulled rear drums also made sure all is well. it is. thoughts?

Yes MC most likely, but might also be a binding Vac assist modual
Question

Get under there and put you finger on the rod and try and feel if the stickey spot is in the pedal, the MC or the vac.

Exact same symptom on my 79, was leaning toward MC, but will try this also.
