I'm servicing my 2L type 4 that I have barely run since I bought the car. Went to adjust the tappets and the two nuts that hold the no. 2 rocker on weren't there! Weird thing is that I found THREE nuts in the head and no washers. Is this a disaster? |

hmmm. assume you are talking about the M7 nuts that get torqued to 11ft/lbs. the ones that hold the rocker shaft on. now when you say you found three "in the head", you mean in the rocker box, right? underneath the valve cover? are the three nuts the same? for sure? they can be easily mistaken for M6 nuts. maybe somebody lost one at one point?
regardless, no; not disaster. put the rocker assembly back on with proper M7 lock washers, use a torque wrench and do an oil change. report back 🙂 _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |

This is a torque critical application where a torque wrench should always be used. It can be hard to find a torque wrench that reads accurately in this range though. |
