My neighbor thinks an O2 sensor in his Porsche is not working properly.
Is there a way he can test it at home (resistance, etc) instead of paying a dealership to do it?
Best,

Yes....there is.....but.....why does he "think"....the 02 sensor is malfuntioning? Whats the symptom?
This is a 2001....meaning its OBD 2 at least. He should be getting a trouble code.
Although.....There can be times when you are getting odd fuel system/fuel mixture related codes due to an 02 sensor that is on the fringe. Typically though.....if the 02 sensor is bad... it throws a code.
There are some decent test procedures on YouTube. You need a VOM and 12 volts. Depending on how many wires it has.....single wire (unheated), three wire (heated) and four wire with system diagnostic capability.
You can test basic circuit resistance.....and you can use a propane torch without being lit to test for the hydrocarbon reaction and lack of oxygen to create voltage function.
Also....if he is getting a trouble code.....and has anything north of 70k miles.....just replace it.
You can get FACTORY parts with factory plugs at any number of sites like 02sensors.com, oxygen sensor depot etc. Depending on the engine in his 996....he may have two upstream and two downstream. They are $85 each at oxygen sensor depot.
I would use pro gold on the connectors first. Ray |
