Dude! I've been walking by your house on my daily commute for years, wondering who the fellow VW nut was! Randomly browsing TS, and the mystery is solved. Ha!

Whooba, that is so funny, I drive thru that same neighborhood on my way to work at Providence. I too was always curious who the VW aficionado was who lived there. Then the epic trip in the white bug appeared and the mystery was solved. What a great story. Enjoyed the adventure. Xevin, good luck with the rebuild. Its getting close.

That’s awesome Very Happy Always wondered if I would stumble upon some of the local ACVW owners in the neighborhood on The Samba. Lots of good ACVW and water cooled folks in our town for sure.

Great read! Looks like you’ll come out way ahead and have a solid engine. Cool you made it home before the problem left you stranded and pissed.

This is going to pair nicely will Bills SVDA. Tim went the distance with this carb to match up with Bills (aka wcfvw69) distributor. This was an OEM DVDA carburetor that Tim refurbished and set up for SVDA. Didn’t know that was a thing until I contacted these two guys. Man they do good work. Shocked Cool

Out of the box and unveiled with the local bus boys at our weekly meet up at the Lucky Lab in Portland,OR. NOT A CLUB! Just beer and whatever. All VWs welcome or whatever you driving that day.

More type 1 porn. Many of you know Tim does amazing work. The pictures do not do it justice. But holy shit it’s bad ass.

My buddies garage is very cool. It’s like being a kid in a candy store. Very Happy

I finally made it to Avery’s Air-Cooled parts (Kelso,Wa) annual VW gathering. This was its 5th year and I hear it’s getting bigger every year. Shocked
Xatie couldn’t make it. But next year we will take her bug. Lots of great people hanging out gawking at eye candy. No awards at this show. It’s just for fun Applause A little plug for the great team at Avery’s.

Meet up with the boys at my house and “Carabused” up.

It was packed inside. Two rows of VWs jammed along sidewalk.

Well shit. I walked right past your westy yesterday. Lol
Total car count was 161. Up from 146 last year.

Jason and the avery's gang put on a great show with lots of give away's and contests.

In one of your pics above. I can just make out the roof line of my 67 next to the green DKW Auto Union van.

Engine blow went 4:37 before it gave up the ghost! Shocked

All in all. A good day for friendly conversations with seldom seen friends.

I'll look for ya next year Xevin.
Maybe at the PNW Bug Run.

Ok Ok. This might be taking much longer of a build then anticipated. Some progress. Xatie not so happy. But in the long run. A quality build that doesn’t cause her issues on the road will be golden. I’m doing this for her. Because she deserves a care free fun bug. Things are balanced and ready for first assembly.

These pictures aren’t to exciting. Just more of a progress report.

Dear Journal,
this was a productive week for Mullet. Projection on long block, Thursday 8/23/18.

Geeked out in the solvent tank far to long. Rubber gloves, cleaning tools, and classic rock. Gotta get every nook and cranny right.

More prep. Getting ready for paint. I know powder coat is the way to go. But the money I saved went towards the distributor.

I thought the PO painted over a blue coil to make it look cool. Was pleasantly surprised, it was a black coil. Cleaned up and shot it with a bit of black paint.

Cleaned off the POs overspray from the alternator.
