Just wanted to share an outstanding experience in Virginia at Aleric's place. We are on a roadtrip from NJ to Texas in an 81 vanagon and will admit that we were reckless in our purchase of the van for this roadtrip.
We lost a plug about 70 miles from Aleric's place and spewed oil all over the pavement. Called Aleric and he said to have the tow truck bring it over. Not only does he know vanagons well, much of his tooling is factory vw tooling to make sure everything fits right. Over the next 4 days he worked on our steering, suspension, and engine, allowing us to help and teaching us so much about the van. Not only did we leave with a better running van but we left with a lot of knowledge about our van and the confidence to be able to work on it in the future. Rarely do you run into people like Aleric and it sure is uplifting when you do. I hope this isn't our only time to see him.
Alaric and Larry are great, both super nice guys amd willing to help out in anyway they can. Larry gave us permission to stay at his house as we continued our roadtrip and Aleric let us stay at his place while he worked on the van, even letting us use his car.
Look him up if you have a van in the DC area. He is on roadhaus.com and replies to many questions on here about vanagons as well. |
