We are rebuilding Big Emma now and are trying to incorporate things to make life on the road easier.
On the top will be a roof rack holding solar panels and hopefully a roof box. This was the basic setup on the first portion of the adventure (without a roof box - but with other stuff stored on top). The top is obviously heavier than normal but it could be lifted up without gargantuan effort. Unfortunately, it would not stay up on its own. It was held up with a short piece of pvc pipe - basically one in each corner of the top. We have tightened the springs as much as we are comfortable with, with no change in the result.
Before the first part of the trip we purchased and considered installing a gas assist strut (GoWesty - I believe), but the geometry and different popping operation was not conducive to using that particular assist.
I have searched the Samba archives several times and cannot really find any info specific to a Riviera top.
Any brilliant ideas, products, helpful hints available?
thanks - Andrew _________________ '75 Riviera - 'BIG EMMA' (Pan American highway trip paused for a make over)
