Trying to figure out what this wire is for. It comes through with the starter solenoid wire, on the left side. I originally thought it was for the reverse lights, but the wiring for those comes from the coil, according to the wiring diagram.
It's a 73 Ghia coupe

According to the diagram, that red with black tracer wire is from the ignition up front and connects to a solid red via T2A connector that goes to the starter..have a careful look around and see if you can find that wire with the male/female connector dangling around back there
*Added note* it looks like your transmission ground strap is about to give up the ghost from being old and worn and having the clutch cable bowden tube wearing on it for quite some time..you should look at replacing that, once that finally snaps, you'll have funky electrical problems happen _________________ '68 Campmobile-Pedro

The wire, that the in questioned wire is laying on, in the picture, goes to the starter solenoid.
The in questioned wire, is a small 16 or 18 gauge wire. |

Ok, I finally figured it out. It is wire F15 for the transmission switch for safety belt warning system. |
