|
|
I restore and sell rebuilt square top fuel pumps and dome top fuel pumps. Today I restored 3 pumps and while restoring them, I noticed a mark on one I'd never seen before. Looking closer, it had the VW factory remanufactured stamp on it.
Having rebuilt/restored 100's of these pumps, it was the first time I'd seen this mark on a fuel pump. You see this stamp occasionally on VW engine cases. This fuel pump is date code 4-64 as well so it was a factory installed pump on a production engine. Kind of interesting in that the cycle repeated. It was rebuilt once at the factory and then years/decades later, I rebuilt/restored it again. It demonstrates the quality of these parts in that they can be rebuilt over and over again.
The remanufactured stamp is in the picture below.

I've seen some pics of the rebuilt item "Austausch" catalogs. VW rebuilt a lot... transaxles, engines, cranks, flywheels, heads, carbs, cylinders, fuel pumps and more.
Neat how they put a 1966+ pentagon top on a '62?-'65 round-top base.
At the factory rebuild station... there were probably bins of tops & bottoms... grab what you need. _________________ aka: Evan

Very true that the factory could of done it. However, it also could have been rebuilt by someone else after the factory did their rebuild. They swapped the base with a square top.
I do see mismatched top and bottoms frequently when restoring these pumps. I'd just never seen one with the remanufactured stamp before. I thought it was cool.
I love these details. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Paul, I'd be interested in a couple of rebuild-able cores. _________________ www.LoCashRacing.org

this is the factory rebuild fuel pump on my factory rebuild engine.
If you look close, you can see, that the shaft got a new sleeve on this pump.
Stamp on the side says 0761. No other stamp like VW3 or VW7, even if this engine was refurbished way later.
It came with the one year only beetle engine tin with the two holes for intake pre-heat ( was that '67 ? ) so I did always guess, that it was refurbished during that model year or later. But I may be wrong. _________________ 1966 Bus | 1969 Bug | 1976 Passat LX two-door | 1984 Golf 2 C (daily driver)
