Hey guys. I just scored a 65 Bug. It needs a lot of attention but the main body is not bad. However, I do not have a title. Can someone give me some more info off this serial number and suggest the best way to obtain a title for it? I am in Texas BTW.
Thanks

It's a 66. Built in September 1965. The new model years began in August of the previous year.
Can't help on the no title thing. I live in Oregon.

First thing I would do is check to make sure the VIN stamped on the chassis matches the plate in the trunk, a lot of states go by the chassis VIN if they don't match.
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles should have information on what to do if the seller doesn't have a title. A quick look shows they do have a procedure for the current owner to get a replacement title, that would be the easiest thing. |

The tag on the body should be the same as the one on the chassis unless it has been swapped, correct? Actually, I don't recall seeing one on the chassis. I will look again tomorrow. |

Numbers should match, but body or VIN plate can get swapped around over the years. The chassis VIN is stamped on the tunnel under the rear seat.
Just remember, without a title, you DO NOT legally own the car, and if you are unfamiliar with the seller there is always the possibility it could be stolen, or the seller lacks the legal authority to sell it. |

Contact a company called Classic Auto Title there in Texas as well. She did two titles for me. A little pricey, but they do all the work. You will have to have a police officer look at the vin. |
