A rusty van that's due for new tires.

(and a really interesting looking mystery conversion).

The inline 4 you are probably wanting folks to guess at IS interesting, for sure. I am more interested in the other end, where the 90 degree angle has to mate to the transmission, and what that transmission might look like as well. Show us the other side?

That engine mount looks non-committal.

Ouch... Hard to see but that looks like tig welded plate.. not just cut sections of tubing. Also Tig welded cast aluminum oil pan. I'd hazard a guess this new friend CAN weld.

I had to giggle at that one. So, it looks as if the hangar is somewhat close to the center-line of the crank. I will wait to see how the other end is fastened before I get too excited, but the end we see has little/limited ability to hold the torque. Still want to see the business end of that, as I have not seen transverse install being feasible yet.

Of course this feller can weld, he just ain't ready to commit.

The crankshaft elevation looks fairly high.

What we have here folks, is new member who's notafraidofit. Is TheSamba on on the rebound Question

Show us the transmission! A shot from the deck lid would be fun too.

I've been waiting for someone to show off a front-engine transverse engine/driveline unit packed in the back of a van, it's always seemed to me to be so much more elegant an approach to conversion than cobbling different engines to the stock transaxle with all its limitations. How about five or six close-ratio gears that are designed for the engine's output characteristics? Sounds good to me. Now with this one I'm wondering if they did some real innovation and rolled the transaxle 180º forward to move the drive outputs to the front of the block, so the engine ends up in the van's engine bay instead of stuffed up against the sloping firewall, which would be required if you just stuffed a drive unit in without reorienting.

Looking forward to seeing the rest of it.

Oft non-committal, I'm absolutely convinced what we're seeing is a photo.

Great to see someone breaking the mold.

Renault F3r Engine
Honda Accord 1994 N2S4 transmission.
The transmission rotates in the opposite direction.
The body was not cut.
The motor does not protrude into the cabin
The car moves confidently. Mileage 200 km.
Engine mounts are temporary. Later they will be welded to the body.
Ahead of testing the units with possible completion.
Aesthetic part of the project after the tests. Tests of 2000-3000 km.

Sorry for my english. Very Happy

I'm also very curious of the transmission used. Maybe someone found a viable way to use a Mk3 tranny? Heck. I'd be even MORE curious to see the shift linkage! Wink

That bolt on bracket at the pulley end of engine is very clever. To remove the engine, it's probably much easier to unbolt that than stuff a hand and wrench up to get at the fasteners between block and mount.

I'd guess this is they type of mount they used. Cabriolet 2.0 ABA uses this IIRC

I just saw the OP's post. I stand corrected! Wink

Cool! Article mentioned there was an iteration that added a turbo. That looks do-able from the first posted pic..

Watch that coolant hose passing under the cut-off section of bulkhead at the front of the engine bay. That would turn a good day to bad if it chaffed through.

Love this build direction!
