Have a 68 beetle its cut down for a manx body. The bowden case was removed from the transaxle. The tube running down the tunnel extends 7 1/2" past wish bone. Don't know if this was a standard practice when building a buggy. I replaced engine and clutch now have massive clutch chatter when taking off in 1st gear. Before I replaced engine and clutch only done it once or twice. Checked front trans mount it seems fine, no oil on clutch. Checked before install. Have pedal freeplay right. Any ideas? Thanks |

Your old clutch was probably glazed enough to not chatter as much as the new one.
You need the Bowden tube!
I would get the Bowden tube, then cut the clutch cable tube to the correct length so the Bowden tube has some bow in it.
Some good pics and info here:

Also, washers can be added to "shim" the Bowden tube for more "sag". |
