In Alika's T3 thread about the Expedition Portal write-up of its great van (Alika Vaquer’s VW T3 Syncro), sanchius posted a pic and a rabbit trail to another T3 Syncro write-up at the same site (1989 Volkswagen T3 Syncro - Guanabana Overland).
I haven't seen that van mentioned here, so I followed the rabbit trail to their Instagram page (IG: Guanabana Overland) and spent lots of hours in the last 2 days going over it. There're lots of very well thought-out mods to their Syncro with a focus on overland travel and reliability (integrated winch, dual water tanks, amazing rear carrier design, custom made interior, etc) which would keep anybody busy.
Personally, I think the best part are the pics of their overland trip to South America right before the pandemic : great places, amazing people and the mishaps that form part of the adventure. Unfortunately, the pandemic interrupted their travel at Colombia, so they decided to return to Madrid (Spain) after quaranteening for a long time there.
If you want to get ideas for future mods, and get your head to explode with dreams of future travel, I think their Instagram link above might be your cup of tea.
I don't know if the owners are at The Samba, it would be cool if they could post more information. _________________ 87 Syncro Westy EJ25 ("Tardis")

I enjoyed reading this with my coffee this morning. Thanks!
How many have done overland expeditions like this with WBX engines? I know Drive Nacho Drive did the Americas and part of Asia with one. Any other brave souls?
While the WBX weaknesses are well known, the engine has the benefit of stock components and specifications, and is easier on transmission and CVs.
Don't want to turn this into an engine debate, but just curious what people think and if they have other references to adventurers like this. _________________ 83.5 Vanagon Riviera WBX 2.2 "Brown Loaf"

I am attempting that now. Currently four months into the trip and currently in Oaxaca. I can say first hand that Vanagon parts are hard to come by locally. Bring lots of spares _________________ Sabata
