If the car is as solid rust-wise as it appears in your photos, you did well with the purchase. How did it drive on your trip to the car show? With the doghouse fan shroud and single-port engine, you could drive it 75mph all day. Did you mount your 5.5" 914 wheels from your signature line in your Gallery photos? They look great!

Car came with same wheels as I had put on my 74.
Car is running great. Reset timing and slight carb adjustment.
May be changing wheels to stock look 5.5 steelies in the future Laughing
Next up more interior work

May remove all carpet and go to full rubber floor covering.
Also door cards will be ordered soon!

That's a good lookin' car you've got.

I think that beige/yellow just looks stunning on the old Beetles. Prob my favorite factory Bug color.

Carb is now off car and apart on my work bench.
Main jet is too small at 120, will be switched to 130
Idle jet was 50, will be 55
Power jet remains at 65
Air correction jet is 125z and will remain

Following suggestions on Rob & Dave’s ACVW pages for H 30/31 with a 009 distributor.

Rebuild will be completed with new parts by Saturday afternoon. Going out of town tomorrow to see 2 of our grandkids Very Happy

This also gives me access to clean some tough to reach areas on the motor with carb, coil and a few other items out of the way!

That's a great looking bug.

I think my '71 should had been the same color as yours but unfortunately it was painted, badly, back in the day.

Swapped out taillight/brake light bulbs to Sylvania Zevo 2357R LEDs
Also lined the inside of the reflector with aluminum tape to give the light more help reflecting.
Came out nicely with much more light from tail/brake lights.
May do the rest in LED in future.
Waiting on some parts and then new ceramic coated muffler and carpet will be installed.

I liked the increase in light output with those LEDs for the brake lights, but I'll have to look into putting that foil tape in there too. Sounds like a good idea!

I’ve done the foil tape before on several 914s tail lights!
Worked great, so decided to try it on the Bug when I opened up the light and saw the tail/brake reflector was basically flat grey and it wouldn’t polish well with metal polish. Crying or Very sad

This was with normal bulbs, running lights after lining the housing with aluminum tape Very Happy

Open wing window.
On the bottom there are two small factory rivets.
Drill those out and the pull old latch out...
The rubber grommet will likely come out with it.
Place grommet on new latch and line up holes and install with 2new rivets.
