I have 2 things I need to find out what and where these go. First is a metal hex part. It has a hole in the end of it. What is this? The other picture is a spliced off boot for the vaccuum line coming from the AAR. I currently have it plugged with a screw. What is this and where does it go?

Thanks again in advance.

That hex bar....is a 10mm hex....and its what unlocks your distributor clamp so you can adjust ignition timing or remove the distributor.

These next notes...are going to be from VW 411 and 412 information...which is fine because the Porsche 914 1.7L and 1.8L...actually CAME from the VW 411 and 412 cars...and were identical down to the last part #...and made on the same assembly line.

The small 3mm ID hose coming off of the boot between manifold and AAR...could have gone to two different components

1. To the "throttle kicker" on a VW 411/412....which only came on Automatic transmission vehicles

2. To the vacuum operated deceleration valve. The vacuum hose map in the link below...notes this is for California "manual transmission models" of the 412.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7423198

That notation in that link about being a California modification is slightly incorrect...I think....because there were never ANY manual 411/412 models shipped directly to California (or anywhere else in the US)...and my German tourist vehicle manual trans 412 came direct from Germany with the manual decel valve and that hose. But they may have simply been equipping all US models with that California spec part.

And the really....really....fun thing I just found in my parts book....is that for the manual transmission equipped cars....they list plugging that little line with a RIVET Laughing PART # N 13 670 1. Very Happy

But....many if not most of the 914's had a decel valve and that hose would have been the vacuum supply for it.

A thread about it

Ray, you are the man! Thank you again for the info.

I connected the AAR to that broken wire that supplies the power as posted on my earlier thread. However, when moving stuff around, broke my plug wire on cylinder 2. Waiting on the replacements to redo all the plug wires now.

Hopefully by next week end, we will have her running.
