Stock VW is 5.6mm i.d. The pump inlet and outlet are 6mm o.d. so 5.6mm is a nice snug fit.

Outlet of pump is 6mm (+/-), most commonly referenced to as 1/4 inch... Inputs at carbs are 5/16 I believe... May want to use "T" after fuel pump with 1/4 (6mm (+/-)) inlet and 5/16 outlets... Lines from "T" to carbs would be 5/16....

Use good quality clamps.... EFI style are superion to worm clamps...

Best use calipers on carb inlet fitting to verify ...

"stuff happens"....

You can probably swap around the fuel inlet and plug on driver side carb so you can sort of hide all the fuel lines on back side of shroud....

got any advice on start up Dale?.the deal with the motor is---it has sat in someones basement for close to 30 years.its a 1971 dp AE motor.it has the 113-101-375A heads from 71 also.it was a good motor being saved.(so the story goes).crank end play was minimul.has good compression.i flushed the case with oil.valves I re adjusted to 6 as recommended.fresh plugs, wires, dizzy, cap, rotor, etc.points r in it,but I do have an electronic ignition I could replace points with?.new fuel pump, empi intakes, carbs.am I missing anything.any suggestions?.or just crank her over?.i am going to wire the battery and vol reg up.new starter is in.i only wanted to get some light use for the summer.if she raps like a son of a gun I will rebuild entire engine.fingers crossed....I also removed the flywheel found out it was the 8 pin flywheel(we spoke about) on the 4 pin crank, replaced rear main seal and o ring.crank end play was a hair under 4 with 3 shims.i am a chevy guy and a mechanic by nature but I had to buy 3 vw books its all different.lol

I also received a milk crate with the buggy.even tho the buggy had a 6 volt 1200cc engine.it came with a bosch generator for a 12 volt, that I put on my 1600,and there is an ORIGINAL 12 volt bosch blue coil from Germany.and I checked it,it is still working correctly.well its correct on my tester anyways.so I will use that also.

If it turns over free and you have oil in it and maybe bit of WD40 in cylinders (pre wet)... I would say go aheads and start it, you may be a Chevy guy, but (some don't believe) it's just a motor.... I would watch oil pressure for first few minutes and listen for any odd sounds.... It will probably spit and sputter a bit but should get better in a little time....Let it get warm a bit before anything wild on throttle... Its basic, if it has fuel, spark and timed correctly it will run...

Want to back track here a step or two.... Spin it up with coil disconnected to see if it builds oil pressure.... Then fire it up....

motor in.i got it started and it runs great!!!!.I didn't prime the carbs.just cranked it over.it started in about 45 seconds!!.I hooked up a dummy light that went out as soon as it built oil pressure.it only had to crank over a few seconds for the light to go out.i am very pleased.i had taken a risk not rebuilding it.very pumped!!!..sounds awesome!!!..It didn't spit sputter pop.nothing just started right up after 20 plus years in somebodys basement.i have a video I am going to load to youtube...
