I have a 1995 EVC with 5 cyl, 5 sp manual. I'm having intermittent issues starting. It has a brand new battery. And Yes, the + battery connection is loose, but I cannot tighten the nut any further. but here is what happens: I'll turn the key, the monitor lights on the instrument cluster all light up as they should, but then when I turn the key to start, it will either start, or it will all shut down. no starter, nothing. And then I have to jump start it and it starts right up.

I'm no mechanic but I'm thinking the solenoid or starter, but more likely the solenoid since it starts right up other times...

Any thoughts??

If your positive terminal end is not tight there is little point in digging further into starting issues until this is corrected as this very likely will be the culprit.

Remove the terminal end. Remove the nut and bolt. File or grind the inside opening, the pinch point. THis will allow more "pinch" when you reinstall your bolt.

Do this and report back.

^^^^^^ after fixing the battery terminal, which should be first^^^^^

Turn the key to the on position. Jump 12v from the battery to the small blade of the starter solenoid. If it starts ands runs, you have a problem with the ignition switch.

This. Fix this first.

It’s very possible for A loose connection to pass enough current to run the car, but not start the car.
