When I bought my Ghia last fall it came with a ton of parts. As I start assembling the car I run across some that I question. See the attached. On the right is what I ‘think’ is the front hood release lever. That said, I founf the piece on the left in a box of loose parts and wonder if it is for a Ghia or even a Beetle?

Can anyone advise?

Thanks,

The metal one goes inside glove box left side.

The left one is Ghia. The other one looks like Beetle.

I second this answer. My 71 convertible has this same lever.

On my '68 I have the one on the left in the original phote. I can't say for sure about a '69.

From the other comments here it would appear that there has been a change. sometime before '71.

The 68/69 release looks much more substantial then the 70. I have the 70.

Now I'm wondering what type of release was in my two '69 bugs. 1984 was when they both went away. And it reminds me I need a new glove box in the Ghia as the release lever is flopping around. Good thread, thx.

I would need to pull out my copy of Progressive Improvements to verify but I think in 69 the Beetles still had the simple finger dimple next to the lid, they weren't locking yet.
EDIT: they were (Beetles) locking beginning in 1969 but had a finger pull below the dash on the right side. The release was not yet in the glove box.

My 74 Super Beetle had the metal style lever shown.

My 69 ghia has the White Plastic one.

Afraid my release cable would fail I attached a braided cable to the release lever on the lock and ran it out through the inner fender well and fitted a circular ring to it to pull with my finger.

Hate to confuse things but both my 69 convertible and my 71 coupe have the one on the right in the first photo.

1971 had the one on the right - at least the two 71s I have owned.
