Just picked up a 79 bus with the 2000cc fuel injected motor. Starts up after lots of cranking over, and runs but does not idle. When I put it in gear it bogs out and dies because it has absolutely no power. Could this be low compression? 88,000 miles. |

My advice -
Contact this guy today !!
https://www.airschooled.com/
Robbie will be hovering around your area in about a week or so. Grab him for a half or full day if he can get you into his schedule. It will be the best investment in your bus that you can make.
Otherwise consider Amskeptic (also here on the Samba). He might be able to fit you in when he rolls this way (mid July-ish).
With either, you will come away with a wealth of knowledge - and confidence..... and a much healthier vehicle. _________________ '75 Riviera - 'BIG EMMA' (Pan American highway trip paused for a make over)

Vacuum leak is most likely but there are other things. I second hiring Robbie. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Do a complete tune up first, points, condensor, cap, rotor, spark plugs, adjust the valves, then set the check that the advance works as the grease on the weights will harden over time. Look to see if the plug to the AFM is in all the way. _________________ 70 Ghia Black convert-9/69 build date-stock w/133k 1600 SP-barn find now with a rebuilt tranny and engine

Along with what others have said, your fuel is probably rotten. A drain and refill would be in order if it hasn't sat more than 6 months or so. Longer than than and cleaning the tank would be in order as well. After you put in new fuel add some FI cleaner to the tank. |

Along with a basic tune up, checking ALL of the EFI plug connections for corrosion, cbeck all grounds, check basic input voltage to the coil and the EFI system (low voltage causes issues for both)......right up front.....check fuel pressure and do a leak down test.
Everything else can be perfect.....but poor fuel pressure will always run poorly. Ray |

t-cash, new guy needs newbie info dump.....
there is also a trick/hack/mod for rigging up a smoke tester for finding vac leaks on here somewhere.
in the coming info dump there is also the ever important "don't overtighten the oil strainer plate" Doing so can cause a world of hurt. |

Every Type IV engine owner should know this!!!
If you over tighten the Oil Strainer bolt, you will brake the engine case!
There is a Oil strainer in there.
TORQUE THE STRAINER BOLT TO NO MORE THAN 9 FT. LBS. |
