Hi all,

I recently bought this 1967 Ghia Coupe.
LHD Ex California car from new, Ex USA and South American racer, exported to Japan, raced and was then made into a show car, hoop roll bar has been removed, exported to Australia many years ago.
Porsche parts fitted.
Running driving car last registered in Qld Australia 10 years ago.
Cheers, Damo.

Yes it was Qld registered.
It was imported into Melbourne Victoria years ago and then sold to a guy in Qld who registered it up there.
Its now back in Victoria.
Im yet to register it here in Vic, next couple of weeks should see that happen. |

Hi,
Not sure which way to go as yet, a few possibilities.
1- Leave as is and drive it, thats my probable plan, the paint is faded on the bonnet, roof and engine lid and tops of gaurds. Its been stored in Queensland since 2009.
I've left it and not polished it, it would polish up ok but i like the "As found" look of it.
Its mechanically perfect!
I have changed oil, greased front end, new plugs and leads, fresh petrol, cleaned and tuned carbies and its running perfectly.
Very little rust to speak of, perfect floor pans and sills etc.
It even has racing plaques on the dash and stickers from back in its racing days.
Its not an original car by any means, dash is modified with Porsche 356 gauges etc, stainless trim removed from outside but i like the look. 😆
2- Pull the 356 engine and all porsche parts, sell engine and parts, put a VW engine in, i have a 1776 with twin Dellorto's sitting here. Polish the paint and try put it back to original as best i can. Big task. 🤑
3- Full resto! Even bigger task. 😭
It came with 2 sets of spare Porsche wheels.
2 spare 356 engines and gearboxes and other 356 parts.
It has also been fitted with adjustable beam and drop spindles.
All suspension and steering arms are chrome, front hubs are chromed, rear hubs are chromed, chrome hood and engine lid latches / springs, hinges etc, Chrome pedals and pedal linkages, Lots of other chrome interior parts, Chrome engine tinware- stupid i know, fully detailed undercarriage with custom paint and pinstripes etc etc etc.
It really was heavily detailed.
Someone spent ALOT of money back in the day!
I believe the engine fitted is a 1965 Porsche 1600SC engine.
Any suggestions which way i should go with it would be appreciated. |

First thought- sell the 356 motors and parts, install 1776, make back tons of money.
But the history sounds very interesting and there aren't a lot of Karmann Ghia race cars... so I would go with option 1 for at least a few years. Plus even stock a 616 in SC trim puts out about 95HP. I'm assuming the car handles amazingly? Any interior pics? Great find. _________________ 1964 MG Midget MK1 Monte Carlo Replica

I have decided to pull the 1965 Porsche SC engine out of the Ghia this weekend and install the 1776 VW engine i have.
Im sure i wont have a problem finding homes for the Porsche motors. |

I like the horsey on the left front fender/wing.
Gives the car a bit of a Ferrari look, don't you think? |
