I recently purchased a 91 Carat with an auto tranny. I am looking to convert it to a Porsche auto tranny. Does anyone know which one would be the most compatible?

The vehicle is from the US / Canadian market.

Yes, the easiest is from a 944, except the differential. But it's identical to the Vanagon transmission, so it doesn't make sense. Wink
Porsche 964 Tiptronic would be a go, if you put an engine with power and torque in your Vanagon.

Porsche transmission has brass bushings and a 4 planetary gearset. At least mine does. So they are not identical, similar maybe but not identical.

How easy would it be to convert the electronics related to the 964 tranny?

I plan to install a Subaru H6 3.3 eventually.

Ok, so buy a 964 Tiptronic, it has less electronics than a 993 Tiptronic. And I think they're cheap in the US, like in Europe.

Yes, the Porsche 944 transmission has a 4 planetary gearset like in the Oettinger Vanagon gearbox NL. But that doesn't mean 4 gears instead of 3, or taller gearbox ratio.

What kind of open roads do you have in Jamaica to need that much engine/trans?
