The engine compartment wiring in my Bradley is FUBAR.

Need a clarification on wiring up the Bosch K1 alt that came with my Type 4 engine.

It has 4 terminals on the back: B+ stud, and D+, DF, D- plug.

Can I just wire B+ to the battery and the other three to their corresponding terminals on the regular?

Or do I have to make one of the three on the plug a switched hot?

Do I have to run a light (or resister) off one of the three plug wires to get it to regulate? (has an amp meter on the dash)

The regulator has a metal body, is it grounded through its mounting tab?

Thanks for the help.

You have what is referred to a 4 wire alternator.... Should be wired to external regulator, not sure of exact configuration but most have a plug the connects to alternator and a plug into regulator.....

This is most likely configuration you have/need...

Believe it needs ALT lamp.... Also throw AMP meter away and replace it with a VOLT meter, lot simpler to wire....

Ok, so D+ handles the keyed hot and light.

My 1st thought is to run a line from the hot side of the coil to D+.
Does that work or is it a "Oh god no, you'll fry everything!"?

Already have a volt meter wired in.
Everything forward of the firewall is in ok shape so I'm just planing on leaving the amp meter in place.

Possibly... Had buddy wire his race car that way BUT with diode to protect "everything"....

Wired like a "anti-run on diode" to coil instead of to ALT lamp...
