That got to be the best looking 36hp engine installation I've ever seen. But I love all your detail to the car, everything 100% thought through.

Big_E_Deluxe,

Do you have any plans to dyno tune the carbs?

Cheers,

Paul

Paul, I was looking into it, but my plans changed, and then my plans changed again, Haha. Local, well known 36hp specialist has a engine stand dyno. He was interested, but I was running out of time, and needed to get engine installed for a 4 day road rally. But of course, the event was cancelled. Maybe someday while I’m doing other improvements I can get it in his hands. It would be the best way to tune.

Just spent a good part of my day enjoying this impressive build thread and enjoying your extensive detail. It has been extremely informative. I love everything about the way you have carried out your revisions with great research along the way with a clear and divisive plan as you move forward. The outcome is very inspirational to me. I have a very nice 1955 Oval that I would love to one day build up in the same way you have built yours. Cheers

Posting up a few other goodies and accessories for sale. I have another project in the works and could use some extra cash. Cool

Oh wow, that's a beautiful badge. The "1200" wouldn't really be correct for my car, but I love the idea of it.

Eric,
Since we've discussed it before, here is the latest with my 63 with the 4.5" Vintage 190 wheels and the Pirelli tires. I really appreciate your input and experience with these tires and I'm so glad I went with them along with the 4.5" wheels. Definitely got the look and performance I was after.

Also, threw in a pic of my engine for fun. More than a 1200 in there but I've definitely tried to embrace something of a vintage inspired look with the changes I've made to the car, and there will be more to come (probably next winter).

How's that engine doing in yours? Haven't seen any more updates.

Cheers,
Chad

I like it Chad, looks good! I like the engine too, clean & purpose built. How is your oil canister mounted to shroud?

Thank you. Those are JayCee short IDA manifolds. I cleaned up the castings significantly and powdercoated them.

Chad, engine is running great! Starts right up and idles perfectly after sitting a few days. Previous setup would require some time to heat up before it would hold idle. Not sure why this changed, but I'm thinking it was the carbs. I've been driving longer and longer drives just to make sure it's good. No leaks! Very dry up top and below. Very happy with the results so far. Appears to be running cooler with new aluminum oil cooler (this is good since they are not cheap!). Temps were not an issue, but I do see a difference in time to temp and how quickly temps change or recover based on how hard I'm driving.

Eric,
Thank you. I've tried very hard to keep it clean and simple with a respectful nod to the past. Maybe someday my 2110 will be as cool looking as a hot rodded 36hp or 356 engine. Wink There will be more changes to come with that goal in mind.

The oil canister is an old Fram that a gentleman had on a 1940 Studebaker. I picked it up on eBay for $40. I have modified it and it is now my breather box for the crankcase (I've got a full flow oil set up with an O'Berg filter under the left fender.) It has the bracket integrated into the back of the canister, which is just a stamped piece of steel spot welded to the cannister. I installed steel threaded 6mm rivnuts in the fan shroud to mount it. It's quite secure. I modified it with weld on -8AN fittings, added internal baffling, vented the top, then powdercoated the body Porsche silver and the lid card black to match the engine tin (both colors are from Prismatic Powders online). I found the beautiful reproduction vinyl (not water transfer) decals on the 356 registry classified ads.

It was a long project over the winter, and there were more modifications and changes than just the breather. I'm extremely happy with the results.

That's great when changes show positive results. Some of the changes I made to mine were to help with oil temp as well. I too am seeing positive results from my changes.
