I have reason to believe that most of mine are original. Its a 68, they are really dry out and a lil brittle. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Mine looks pretty good. I have some 303 aerospace protectant which really works wonders in keeping convertible tops supple. Is this good to use on the gaskets? |

Well, one knows if one has had the VW since it was 2 years old, like the case with me and my 1970. Well, my 1970 still had the original rear rubber seal until 1.5 years ago, when I replaced it due to leakage. Its windshield seal is original, the windshield was replaced in the 1970s. Its quarter window seals are original too. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Do you think the leakage is from dry rot from the Arizona sun? 🤡 |

Absolutely. I built a 28.5 foot long carport on the side of the house back in 1995, would've been significantly more difficult to go longer than that because the block fireplace jutted out at the end. We parked a 1988 Suburban under that, and not enough room to cover the entire 1970 VW, which sat there with its hind end facing the Arizona mid-day sun from 1995 until I started resurrecting the VW in late 2016.
My daughter and I replaced the rear seal, and it was much easier than when we did the rear seal in my 1971 convertible a few years before, because of the "give" in the soft top. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. My '71 convertible has its original front windshield rubber and original windshield glass. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. All my seals and glass, save the windshield, which I replaced, are original. The seals are also all cracked, and brittle. The don't leak though. I coated them with some sealant about 7 months ago. _________________ Daily driven....Slowly. |

Unless the supplier says they are the manufacturer, it's possible, even likely, that the suppliers are getting the seal from the same source. West Coast Metric says there's is made in USA for WCM:

I just did my seals on the whole car, I used west coast metric. They went in very nice. Not one complaint _________________ 1971 SUPER BEETLE
