Took a risk here. No keys, no idea if engine is good, bought this on the web (auction - charity), without seeing it... had to sleep on the couch for a few days. Anyways just received it, front seats are scrap, floor needs to be replaced. We’ll see for the rest, but seems very solid!!!

Looks like a decent start. What are your plans for it? Take 1 of the door handles to a locksmith and have them make a key for it. You might get lucky and have an ignition and rear gate key, since these were originally 1 key cars from 68 on.

Thanks good idea for the key. You think the key barrel is exactly the same as the ingition? I thought the key path could be more complex in the ignition even if it is the same key...

The keys have an engraved number identifying the cut. I had to do that for Opal, my, 67. Nice catch on it, is it an auto, does it still have the injection on it?

On my 73 Squareback, one key fits the doors, back hatch, ignition and even the glove box. However, I have a wad of keys for each of my type 1s.

Nice find. I have a 72 also in progress. Mine runs not driving yet. Take the tips on the keys.

There should be a number stamped on it. But, I'd still take the handle to a locksmith and have a key made for it. I've done the mail order key thing before, and had an issue. It's hard to just "pop in" and get it adjusted when you're mail ordering. My local guy makes sure it works before he gives it back to you (his rep is on the line).

On my '71s, one key fit the doors and ignition (and rear hatch on the square), but the glovebox had a totally different key. This way a valet can't get to valuables stored in the trunk, but can start and move the car. This was original from the factory.

It also came with a cable and keylock to lock the spare to the trunk well. I guess this was from the distributor or dealer, since it was a Master brand lock (USA company). Both my fastback and the squareback had these, so I guess it was common.

Anybody know if those frame sections are available somewhere? Seems to be some kind of reinforcement...

Either NOS, or good usedis all you're going to find. Contact Mike Fisher and or Joel (Boo-Koo-Z) for availability. You might also want a WTB (Want To Buy) ad up in the classifieds (it's free), as someone closer might have one.

I wonder if rust is hiding under the last upholstery in this frunk?

The rust around the rear bumper mounts is common on Square's and Fastbacks. I've repaired that area on a couple of them now.

Have a look in my gallery to see what kind of metal fab I had to do to my old 71 Notch. Wink Most of it, is the same repair work you have in front of you (there will be some differences though).

Yeah this is similar to mine. Thanks man, lots of pictures to help. Time and money right???

Now my wife gives me tons of example every day of what we could in the house with this money (instead of restoring this Squareback...). Rolling Eyes
