I bought this engine with a smaller than normal pulley, it came off of a rail buggy. I'm putting it into a bug is this a good or bad thing. What's the purpose of a smaller pulley ? Will it create a cooling issue?thanks

Those are called "power pulleys", they reduce the drag/RPMs by turning the generator/cooling fan slower, OK for quick passes down the strip, not so good for engine longevity.

The small pulley is for decreased cooling, increased power output, what could go wrong? Its better use is as a paper weight.

And just in case the message isn't clear yet that running a power pulley isn't a good idea for cooling and longevity reasons, the following pics are of an engine I was given showing what a power pulley is good for.

Well, obviously it created too much power, so much that it had to escape the engine case as fast as possible

Look at it this way...not using the thermostat? Using a power pulley will get the operating temperature up enough to vaporize the moisture in the oil. Wink
