Hi , I have a 1993 Eurovan 5 cyl w a minor exhaust leak, probably manifold. I've seen posts about cracks in them. How bad is it to pull them out and fix ? Any words of advice? I saw the post about weldong one successfully. I like that possibility.

Thanks for encouraging words!

it's a pain. have good angle socket and extensions (for the flange) ....
soak all the studs in penetrating oil the night before.

Yes, the AAF exhaust manifolds were prone to cracking. Welding is one option but the only way to be truly sure of success is to install the manifold and it through a few heat/cooling cycles.

COnsider installing a 2.5L ACU exhaust manifold and downpipe. These aren't prone to cracking. Another benefit is the better breathing of this system over the AAF>

Agreed, I ran into this same problem on my 93' and I chose to upgrade to the newer/stronger/more efficient ACU manifold and downpipe.

One other thing - is there any online guide or instructions for this? Is it best accessed from the top or below?

Thanks.

You will be accessing from both the top and bottom. Penetrating oil is your friend here and no wd-40 isn't a penetrating oil. Get a good oil and give it several applications and time to soak in.

I prefer to take out the downpipe completely. That only requires three more "through" bolts (replaceable so cut or break them if they're stubborn) and one extra gasket but once removed gives additional working space to R&R the exhaust mani.

I have a 1992 Eurovan CV with petrol 5 cyl that is starting to sound like exhaust manifold is leaking. Noise goes away when it is warm. Could it be just a gasket?
